I did a day trip out of Luxor to visit Abydos and Dendera. It was a lot of time on the road but it is so worth it. These 2 sites are phenomenal and not as many people visit them as say Karnak (which is good too of course). It is so hard to imagine that these were buried in the sand and were dug out. There is restoration going on to clean up and show the detail on the painted walls and ceilings. I loved looking at all the carvings on the sides of the temples and the columns.
