We've now started getting the emails about new policies (travel is the first one) and new ways we will be accessing our information via the intra/internet and email . . .oh, no!!! an hp.com email now instead of the one that has been familiar for so many years.
Hopefully, this transition will not cause me any problems. As usual, people worry when they end up being one of the employees taken over by a new company. Our company has done a bit of its on acquiring over the years as has the new company (anyone remember Compaq???).
Life marches one!!! I'll just be hanging in as long as I can and hope that I will still be around for a long while. I don't have plans to look for another position unless I get a clear indication that I'll be out the door in another layoff wave.
On another note, a long time co-worker has turned in his resignation to move onto greener pastures. I hope things work out for him. We've all jokingly told him that he has saved another employee's job somewhere down the line. Hey, I even did that a few years ago . . . I left one position ahead of layoffs . . . oh, wait, I've left 2 different companies ahead of layoffs, lol! One worked out for the better, the other one, well . . . . I could have kicked myself considering what happened but things turned out fine in the long run. I've been at my current company 14 years and have weathered a few layoffs now. Hopefully, I'll make it through a few more.
Now I am curious to know whether we will switch from leasing Dell laptops to leasing HP laptops and what kind of discount we can get on HP products for personal use, hehe!! Need to think of the positive side of things.
Another curious event. I got a note in the mail for the SAAB dealership where I bought my car. My company has had a GM discount for vehicles for many years and GM bought SAAB awhile back. They are dropping the discount now, so the SAAB dealership wanted to get the word out that this will be the last model year available for a discount, hehe! I don't think I'll be trading my car in though. It brought my heart when my previous car was totalled after I had paid it off . . . and therefore, went back to making car payments. I was really enjoying not having payments and I wish I could pay it off faster. Hmmmmm, maybe I should quit paying extra on my mortgage and apply to the car payments. . . I don't think I'll ever finish with that 30-yr mortgage. . . bummer!
